Blog # 5 civil disobedience

I agree 100% with Thoreau idea that our own individual moral action isn’t compatible with living in a democracy because if the majority rules puts a policy or law that conflicts with what you believe to be right or morally unjust. In the democracy or mob rule everyone is uniform all the same following orders and the individual consciousness is dead. The perfect example again is covid. How everyone wants Heard immunity and wants everyone to take a vaccine without taking into account a persons values of not wanting to take a vaccine.

  1. I'd be interested to know what 'values' lie behind the refusal of vaccination. In Thoreau's case, the opposition to slavery clearly reflects a moral commitment that is not of personal benefit to him. I don't really see a similar moral commitment in the case of not wanting to take a vaccine (particularly when people are fine taking *other* vaccines)
